Y vs. e

When the following word starts with the vowel sound /i/, the conjunction "y" (=and) turns into "e".

    y yo somos hombres. (You and I are men.)
    Dos huevos fritos y un café, por favor. (Two fried eggs and coffee, please.)

E

  • and (when the following word starts with the vowel sound /i/)

    Soy joven e inocente. (I'm young and innocent.)
    Usé demasiada lejía e hice un agujero en mi camisa. (I used too much bleach and made a hole in my shirt.)
