Spanish conjugation explanation
Subjunctive accent mark
<p>The <strong>first person plural</strong> verb forms in the imperfect (both variants) and future subjunctive tenses require an <strong>accent mark before the attached ending</strong> to keep the stress on the stem. For all the other forms, the stress is already on the stem (based on the rules of stress in the Spanish language - see further below).</p>

<div class="conjugation_explanation_title">Stressed syllable</div>
<p>So, when is a syllable stressed? A syllable is always stressed if its vowel has an acute accent (´) over it. For all other words, the stressed syllable is determined by the last letter of the word:</p>
<ul>
<li>If the word ends in a <strong>vowel, <span style="font-style: italic;">-s</span> or <span style="font-style: italic;">-n</span></strong>, the stress is on the <strong>second to last syllable</strong>.</li>
<li>If the word ends in a <strong>consonant other than <span style="font-style: italic;">-s</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">-n</span></strong>, the stress is on the <strong>last syllable</strong>.</li>
