Portuguese conjugation explanation
Ambiguous 'you'
<p>
There are some cases when the translation of the sentence in itself is not enough to determine the required person of the verb form. In cases like this, <strong>you should always look at the person indicated at the top</strong> to figure out which one to use.
</p>
<p>For example, consider the following exercise:</p>
<div style="border: 0.1rem rgba(8, 116, 133, 0.2) solid; border-radius: 0.8rem; margin-bottom: 1rem;">
<p style="text-align: center; font-weight: 600; margin-top: 1.5rem;">
<input type="text" placeholder="(ler)" style="height: 3.6rem; width: 6rem; text-align: center;" disabled> um livro.
</p>
<div style="text-align: center; margin-bottom: 0.5rem;">Translation: <span style="font-style: italic">You read a book.</span></div>
</p>
</div>
<p>Without further context, the solution could be any of the following verb forms:</p>
<ul>
<li>(tu) lês (in European Portuguese)</li>
<li>(você) lê (in both dialects)</li>
<li>(vós) ledes (in European Portuguese)</li>
<li>(vocês) leem (in both dialects)</li>
</ul>
<p>
This is why you should always check the person displayed at the top of your screen.
